Finding “Hot Spots” of Human Connection
There’s the old adage:
“Successful people are at the right place at the right time, right place at the wrong time, wrong place at the right time and occasionally they strike out altogether, wrong place, wrong time.”
In the end, as the saying goes, successful people are in many places at many times.
Given my natural proclivity for embracing an “everywhere but nowhere,” lifestyle, meeting new people in random places just comes naturally to me.
Coffeehouses. Plane flights. Wine bars. Festivals. Sporting events. These are among the many spots where I am able to ignite face-to-face connections with effortless ease.
In terms of online, the business networking site LinkedIn is my venue of choice. For me, the goal with these sorts of connections is always to try and foster an offline discussion either by phone or in-person. Doing this I find can lead to a deeper and more purposeful exchange.
By way of example, I just had a face-to-face lunch meeting in San Diego this past week based on a connection I made on LinkedIn. His name is Ben Chiarelli and he is the founder of an exciting new startup known as Cellibre.
Oddly, it was his sharp rebuttal to something I shared in a LinkedIn post that ignited our connection. Here’s how it went…
