My connection with Casey Kochmer dates back to 2013 when I stumbled upon his website Personal Tao during a very rough patch of my life. I immediately reached out, finding him to be a very patient teacher amidst my endless pontifications about how life had done me wrong.

Residing in Hilo, Hawaii with his wife and teaching partner Julie,

Casey provides private Taoism instruction and holds personal retreats, serving as a guide for people in mid-life crisis and transition.

I recently asked Casey to share a few insights about the chaotic times facing humanity on the heels of shifts in the global world order. Here’s what he had to say:

What was the catalyst behind your decision to teach Taoism?

Really there was no catalyst. You either are or are not your own person. We can lose our way occasionally, which I did after college. It was the unkindness of our culture, which galvanized me back into teaching kindness.

What is Taoism?

Taoism is about being true to your essence. It involves expressing your life story in a way that embodies that essence.

Are there any common misconceptions about Taoism?
